Thanks for dropping by! Let me introduce myself - my name is Tanya Self and I'm an Australian Country Music Singer/Songwriter. I won Star Maker back in 1995 and was lucky enough to record for the first time, as part of my prize. I released lots of singles, and an album over the next 10years, and made lots of radio friends and discovered country music fans, far and wide, touring, playing and headlining many music festivals. I also went town to town as support act to Daryl Braithwaithe. I asked Adam Harvey to record a duet with me, "Drive Away" and we won a Golden Guitar in 1998. I even got to go to China to sing my music to tens of 1000's at the Nanning Folk Festival.
Please wander through my site, find out a little more about me. I am also a mum of three amazing human beings that I am watching grow towards adulthood (though that's a little way away, yet!)
Maybe you are visiting because you've heard about my new album, RANDOM TRUTHS or you are interested in music. Either way, WELCOME! Checkout the facebook page or follow any of the social media you are comfortable with - there are links on every page.
Some very special people that I admire in Country Music had this to say about my new album, RANDOM TRUTHS:
Graeme Connors, Platinum Australian CM icon: “superb vocal performances and world-class production. I am so happy to see Tanya back in the saddle and I’m looking forward to seeing her claim the success this collection of songs deserves.”
From Adam Harvey, Country Music multi award winning legend: "...what a powerful, unique voice...it's a really great album full of great songs, from strong country ballads, to modern catchy tunes.”
I love ice-cream and red jelly (only red), homemade Thai Green Chicken curry. I am proudly an Abba-tragic (but it was a tough gig to admit that at highschool!). I grew up listening to my parents' record collections and whatever was on the radio in my home town of Maryborough (although I was born in Toowoomba). I started playing in pubs, taverns, restaurants and B&S (Bachelor and Spinster) Balls when I was 12 - and I played whatever the audience wanted: lots of Charlie Pride, The Eagles, Kenny Rodgers, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Petula Clark, The Seekers AND Top 40 (it was the 80's!!) The Gambler was, by far, the song I sung the most. But I would always slip in an original in my set.
I started songwriting when I was 9 when I learned to play guitar and won "New Faces" on Sunshine Television - Bobby Limb was a judge and I started to believe dreams can come true. Many of my early songs began as poems, and it became a natural progression to add music. "The Dumaresq" was one of these.
I've had a 'little' break to raise my family, renovate our 'love shack' and stay put for a while. 10 years flew by in the blink of an eye. Then I gave a song to Legacy, "Fixin' Things" and it all began again. Now here we are, you reading this and discovering my new music or finding me again. Thank you! Singing and connecting with people are my passions and family comes first. I hope I get to tour to your town one day soon. I have a wonderful team of people helping me.
Stay tuned to see....in the meantime, enjoy some RANDOM TRUTHS xx
